José Caballero
José holds a law degree from Universidad del Rosario, with a focus on private law, and a postgraduate specialisation in Commercial Law from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, with an emphasis on intellectual property, intangible assets, competition law and consumer law. He is Head of Corporate Law at Marín Ortega, advising domestic and multinational companies on the contractual, corporate and regulatory decisions that shape their operations.
His practice focuses on structuring and negotiating significant commercial relationships, including technology and services agreements, corporate leases, corporate transactions and due diligence processes. As a bilingual lawyer, he advises clients in dealings with international counterparties and in contractual disputes in Colombia and elsewhere in the region. His approach aims to protect the business and anticipate risks before they materialise.
He is a trusted adviser to companies in highly regulated sectors, including BPO and contact centres, telecommunications, technology, tourism and healthcare. He advises them on consumer protection, sector-specific regulation, health regulation, tax matters and intellectual property. He has also guided clients in the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence in customer service, bringing together his legal practice and work in innovation.
Together with Germán Ortega, he leads the innovation practice at Marín Ortega Tech. In this role, he develops initiatives in legal automation, AI-assisted document generation and automated trademark clearance searches, designed to make legal services more responsive and efficient.
